Careful Solar Panel Cleaning in Murphy

Over the months, a fine layer of grime settles on solar glass and trims what your system makes each day. We wash your panels with purified water and soft brushes suited to coated glass, and we look over the whole array while we are on the roof.

What panel cleaning does for your system

A solar panel is a sheet of tempered glass, usually with a thin anti-reflective coating, set in an aluminum frame. That coating helps the cells catch more light, and it is also the part most easily damaged by the wrong cleaning. Abrasive pads, stiff bristles, strong detergents and pressure washers can dull it or force water past the frame seals.

So the method matters more than the effort. We use deionized water, which dries without leaving the mineral spots that hard tap water does, and brushes with soft, flagged bristles made for glass. No soap residue is left behind to catch the next round of dust.

Cleaning makes sense when your production has dipped without a clear cause, after a dry, windy stretch, or once spring pollen has settled. It is upkeep, not a fix for a fault. If we find a failing part, we will say so and point you to our solar repair service.

What a cleaning visit includes

  1. 01

    Pure-water rinse and wash

We wash with deionized water fed through a soft brush. Because the water carries almost no dissolved minerals, it dries clear on the glass instead of leaving a chalky film.

  2. 02

    Spot treatment for droppings

Bird droppings bake onto hot glass and can shade a cell enough to drag down a whole string. We soak these spots first and lift them gently rather than scraping.

  3. 03

    Frame and edge attention

Grime collects along the lower edge of each frame where water runs off. We clear that line so it does not creep onto the cells.

  4. 04

    Eyes on the whole array

As we work across the panels, we watch for chipped or cracked glass, loose mounting clips, wiring an animal has chewed and leaves trapped underneath. Anything worth your attention gets photographed.

  5. 05

    Care for your roof surface

We step only where the surface allows, keep runoff controlled and avoid walking on the panels themselves.

Signs your panels are due for a cleaning

  • Output has slipped on clear days

If your monitoring app shows lower numbers on bright, cool days than it did a year ago, a layer of grime is a common cause and the simplest to rule out.

  • A visible film from the ground

When the glass looks hazy or gray rather than deep blue or black, dust has settled in. Rain alone tends to move it into streaks instead of washing it away.

  • Spring pollen has settled

North Texas springs leave a yellow coat on everything outside. On a low-pitch array that pollen sticks and bakes on once the heat arrives.

  • Bird droppings or nesting

Concentrated spots shade individual cells. Birds nesting under the array also bring debris and can damage wiring.

  • Construction or field dust nearby

Fine dust from building sites and open ground settles quickly on glass, especially after a few dry, windy weeks.

How the visit runs

  1. 1

    A short call first

You tell us how many panels you have, the roof type and what you have noticed in your production numbers. We give you a quote by phone and set a time, usually early in the day before the glass gets hot.

  2. 2

    Safety and setup

We set ladders, secure our fall protection and run our water system. Cleaning cool glass matters, since cold water on a sun-heated panel puts stress on the glass.

  3. 3

    Wash and inspect

We work panel by panel with soft brushes and deionized water, treating stubborn spots by hand and noting anything that looks off.

  4. 4

    Walk-through and photos

Before we leave, we show you before-and-after photos and any concerns we spotted, with a plain answer on whether anything needs attention.

What shapes the price of a cleaning

Cleaning is priced on the job in front of us, and we explain the quote before we start. Most of the difference between two homes comes down to size, access and how long the dirt has been there.

Number of panels
A larger array simply takes more time and water. Panel count is the starting point for every quote.
Roof height and pitch
Low roofs with an easy slope let us set up and move around safely in less time. A steep pitch or a second story calls for more fall protection and slower, more deliberate work.
How built-up the grime is
A first cleaning after several years, or heavy droppings, takes longer than a routine visit.
Ground-mount or roof-mount
Panels on a ground rack are easier to reach and usually take less setup than a roof-mounted array.

Panel cleaning questions

Won't rain clean my panels on its own?

Rain helps with loose dust but not much else. It tends to leave streaks where dirt collects at the lower edge, and it does little for pollen or droppings that have baked on. A light shower after a dusty spell can actually leave the glass looking worse.

Can I just hose them off or use a pressure washer?

A gentle hose rinse from the ground is fine if you can reach safely. Avoid pressure washers, which can push water past frame seals and wear the anti-reflective coating. Hard tap water can also leave mineral spots, which is why we use deionized water.

How often should panels be cleaned?

A yearly visit suits many arrays, while homes near open fields, busy construction or heavy tree cover may want two. Late spring, once pollen season winds down, is a good time to book. A second visit after the dry late-summer weeks helps where dust is heavy, and your monitoring numbers will tell you when it is time.

Will cleaning affect my panel warranty?

Many manufacturers ask for soft, non-abrasive cleaning and no harsh chemicals, and that is how we work. If you have your panel paperwork handy, we are happy to look over the care guidance with you.

Who will be working on my roof?

Our crew works with solar systems every day, and our company holds over 40 solar certificates and licenses. That background means we know what to look for on an array while we clean it, not just how to wash glass.
